MILDRED AND MARY CRTIES AS CHILDREN

This photograph was probably taken in Live Oak, California when Aunt Mary Crites Richards was in the first grade. She is the 7th child (left to right) in the second row. Aunt Mary had polio when she was very little and was never strong thereafter. This class picture may have been taken after that event. These kids are dressed warmer than the other Live Oak School photo on this blog, so the picture may have been taken in Minot, North Dakota.
I used to know which of the children was my mother Mildred, but I've forgotten. I will ask my sister Genevieve to look at this photo and see if she can fill us in. Stay tuned!

V-MAIL FROM THE FRONT - WORLD WAR II

During the Second World War, to minimize the weight of transporting the mail, "V-Mails" were introduced to carry short messages from soldiers on the front lines to their homeland. Some kind of micro-filming process was used. I think that perhaps little cartoon messages were provided military personnel, such as this Mother's Day V-Mail from Jim Fecht to his mother Mildred Crites Fecht in Mexico, Missouri. April 1944

LIVE OAK CALIFORNIA c 1915

Mary and Mildred Crites attended public school in Live Oak, California the same year Mt. Lassen erupted. The children in this photograph may include children of Irene and Albert Crites. The eruption occurred in 1915.

This post card was mailed to Miss Ettamay Crites (the girls older sister) in Hindale, Montana. Their Grandmother Weaver lived on a homestead there. "To Ettamay from Mary Crites.

These two historic postcards were among the records of Mildred Fecht. They were sent to her by her father John Franklin Crites on the 13th of May 1907

Robert Fecht is the great grandson of Margaret (Bost) and Jacob Fecht. Mildred Fecht was the grand daughter of Mary Ann (Secrist) and Josiah Crites. She is Robert Fecht's mother. The young men in the photo are his sons. Bob's son Chris Louis Fecht is deceased.
