ELIZABETH CRITES RIDER

Obituary of Eliza Crites Rider

Eliza Rider was born in Stark County, Ohio, Sept. 11, 1827, and deceased Oct. 28, 1892, aged 65 years, 1 month and 18 days.
She was married to John Crites, in the State of Ohio, August 18, 1842. She and her husband moved to Indiana in 1840, settling in Noble County. To them were born 6 children; 3 boys and 3 girls, 2 sons and 1 daughter are dead.
In 1866 her husband died, leaving her with the principal care of the family. She was married a second time. On November 4, 1874, she was united in wedlock to John Rider who died about two years thereafter.
Since which time she has been in widowhood, spending theirteen years of that time in Pierceton, Indiana. She first united with the U.B. church about 30 years ago and when coming to this place joined the M.E. church, of which she was a consistent member until her death, expressing both a willingness and desire to go and be with Christ, which if far better. The funeral servies took place at the M.E. Church, Monday, October 31, 1892, her paster. H.C. Smith officiating. The text of the sermon was taken from Rev. 14:13. "Write blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea saith the spirit, that they rest from their labors and their works do follow them."
